OVERVIEW: The SET-65KE is a heavyweight, ship-launched, electric-guided anti-submarine torpedo developed by Russia for export. It is a modernized derivative of the original SET-65 series, designed for enhanced performance and reliability in contemporary ASW operations.

DETAILS: "SET" stands for "Samonavodyashchayasya Elektrotorpeda" (self-guided electric torpedo), "65" indicates the original design lineage from 1965, and "KE" signifies a modern Export configuration. The SET-65KE incorporates improved active/passive acoustic homing, enhanced onboard electronics, and upgraded propulsion for extended range and better control. It maintains compatibility with 533 mm surface ship launch tubes and is intended for use against submerged submarines in deep and littoral environments. This model was developed by Russia’s Gidropribor design bureau as part of a post-Soviet modernization effort for international naval customers.

Compared to previous export torpedoes, the SET-65KE introduced better sonar processing, counter-countermeasure resistance, and increased reliability under operational stresses.

TYPE: Heavyweight Anti-Submarine Guided Torpedo

FUNCTION: Upon launch from a 533 mm torpedo tube aboard a surface ship, the SET-65KE engages its improved active/passive acoustic seeker to detect and home in on enemy submarines. It is optimized for use in both open-ocean and coastal anti-submarine warfare, especially in regions with high acoustic clutter or thermal gradients.
